An interactive installation in collaboration with Ioan Cernei. Video trailer: https://vimeo.com/113198666 Greetings from Eastern Europe is a multi-part installation which combines everyday aesthetics from Romania and Estonia with technological intervention. The installation references our own situation and experience and attempts to share these with the participant. As Eastern Europeans living in Central Europe we are often confronted with lingering connections to our points of origin. The result is a perpetual state of being separated from our points of origin yet not unattached. The “greeting” is for us not only a warm, homey message from our countries, but it also has a flipside of discomfort and confusion. Each object attempts to simulate one part of our Eastern European past echoed by these "greetings". The experience includes twisted effort & reward systems, high expectations and low return and a somewhat inhospitable socio-political environment. These attempted experiences of slight discomfort are kind of exotic - just like Eastern Europe observed from the outside.
